Short answer: Most people should exfoliate with black soap and a kessa glove once a week. Oily or resilient skin may handle twice a week, while dry or sensitive skin is better at once every two weeks.
By skin type
- Normal skin: once a week.
- Oily skin: up to twice a week.
- Dry or sensitive skin: once every 1 to 2 weeks, with light pressure.
Signs you are overdoing it
Redness, stinging, tightness, or flaky patches mean you should cut back. Skin should feel smooth and soft afterwards, not raw.
Black soap alone versus with a glove
You can use black soap without a glove as a gentle cleanser a little more often. The glove is what makes it a deep exfoliation, so keep that to the weekly routine.
After exfoliating
Moisturize straight away with a few drops of argan oil, and use sunscreen on exposed skin the next day.
